The MARA Project : Supporting Women Beyond Custody
MARA, meaning "woman" in a cultural context, is a dedicated program designed to support women transitioning from correctional centres back into the community.
Our program offers both in-custody support and in community assistance and support, ensuring a seamless reintegration process.

A Trusted and Established Program
MARA is the statewide Women's Reintegration Service being delivered across multiple locations in Queensland, MARA is a long-standing and well-recognised initiative. Our experienced team is committed to advocating for and empowering justice-involved women, responding to their unique challenges with care, respect, and expertise.
Why MARA Works
We succeed because we:
-
Recognise trauma and complexity – Many women in custody have faced difficult and traumatic life experiences. Our diverse team has decades of experience in providing complex support.
-
Offer holistic, women-centred support – We ensure that women are active participants in their own reintegration journey.
-
Build trust and safety – A strong, respectful woman-worker relationship is at the heart of our approach.
-
Engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities – Acknowledging the overrepresentation of Indigenous women in the justice system, we connect with community in culturally appropriate and respectful ways.
-
Remain flexible yet committed – We work collaboratively with stakeholders while staying unwavering in our mission to support women in need.
At MARA, we listen, adapt, and provide the support women need to rebuild their lives with dignity, respect and confidence.
